bUat diA tErsenyum

‘How was it? Told you, just a pretest. A test with a ‘pre’ at the front part never really a test. Just to evaluate your prior knowledge aje tau.’ temannya menyambung, sambil tangan masih lagi rancak meneruskan kerja-kerja menghidang.

Dia masih lagi tersenyum, tangan laju menekan remote, cuba menghabiskan segera vcd yang dah lama dalam simpanan. Yang bermaksud, kena segera pulangkan kat tuannya. Sudahnya, tak terasa langsung nak meringan tangan menyiap hidangan petang. Hujan di luar pula masih lagi turun dengan lebatnya, tanpa sebarang tanda mahu berhenti.

Merenung kaca tv sambil melepas lelah. Hari yang sibuk, bagi seorang yang malas. Really. 8-10 – class, 11-12.30 – another class, 1-3 – to class again, 4-5 – oh no! Again? malam nanti keluar lagi sambut birthday classmate. Tapi kenapa ya, masih boleh menguntum senyum?

‘wei, lapar.dah boleh makan?’ Lin takat jeling je sebelum geleng kepala. ‘macam bebudak, ingat dah habis kenyang tengok tv. Tu yang asyik senyum je tu.’

‘mana pulak. ni senyum bersebab tau.’ Menjawab sambil menekan butang pause.

‘jenn’ jawab dia bersahaja.

‘Your group mate?’membalas dengan soalan.

‘ada lagi ke budak yang nama jenn kat batch kita?’ membalas service, sesi soal-soal tanpa jawapan.

‘kenapa dengan dia?’

‘she made things easier for me, juga dengan izin Nya’

‘dia bagi ko copy dia ek, time pretest?’

‘suka la ko buruk-buruk sangka dekat aku,’

‘habis tu?’

‘She did ask me about Islam,’

‘Good’

‘Definitely, girl,’

‘memang itu pun yang ko tunggu kan,’

‘dah tu tanggungjawab aku, kene sebarkan pada yang tak tau,’

‘You’re right’

‘I’ve been waiting for that moment tau,’

‘aku tau, ko bukannya reti kalau tetiba nak buat direct session introducing Islam to those who don’t know,’

‘tu la pasal, nasib baik ada masa, kalau tak selamanya terbeban, berkawan bagai dah lama, more than 2 years, tapi aku tak ada usaha pun nak menyampaikan,’

‘You just got your chance, hun’

‘Hope that I don’t blow it up, dear’

‘tapi menyampaikan bukan dekat sorang je yang ko rapat, tapi dekat semua.do not miss that point,’

‘Aye aye captain, I’ll try, insya Allah.’ Kembali merenung kaca tv di depan.

‘hah, makan la. Apa lagi?’

Entah macam mana practical session petang tu, turut mengandungi perbualan tentang Islam. Bermula dari amalan confession and communion by the Catholics kemudian protestant, martin Luther, sejarah text book sebelum beralih kepada perkara basic dalam Islam.

‘hey, what’s the difference between imam and iman? Are they the same thing? I often confuse about those terms,’ jenn mengeluh.

Padahal, sejak dia kenal jenn, ini first time dia dengar perkataan tu keluar dari mulut jenn. Terhenti seketika gerakan tangan.

‘Imam is the leader in the community, the one which is leading the congregation, promoting ones to do good deeds and encouraging ones to turn away from the sins. The imam also is the term used for the one who leads the solah in the mosque,’ kerja yang terhenti tadi kembali disambung. Sambil mata merenung sekilas jenn yang masih berfikir.

Ops lupa nak sambung, ‘and iman pulak is what you believe, your faith, right here in your heart,’

jenn mengangguk, hilang muka confused. Tiba-tiba, jenn tersenyum, sambil bertanya, ‘hey, I want to ask some more, can the imam gets married?’ dengan nada-nada gossip girl.

Dia kembali tergelak dan tersenyum panjang. ‘boleh. The imam can get married, like a normal person. Actually anybody is eligible to the title, kalau cukup ilmu dan faham agama,’

‘Ooh, like the Protestants. The reverends/ pastors are allowed to get married too. Ermm, does it mean that he can have physical contact with his wife?’

‘Hurm, again?’ dia pulak yang bertanya, sebelum menyambung gelak dan membalas, ‘ha-ha, cut the crap la jenn. Sejak bila pakai ayat berlapis ni. Did the question suppose to be; can he have any sexual intercourse with his wife?’

jenn tergelak, ‘I just want to sound polite,’ membela diri.

'sopan santun di jalan raya la sangat, nasib baik I could understand your question. Yes, he can have that; can start a family, having children. Again, he is a normal person jenn. He supposes to show a good role model to his community. But then, if he is not allowed to have his own family and leaves like a normal person, how on earth that he will be able to show others how to raise the kids and what kind of family and parenting institution that a Moslem should have?’

‘Hurmm, true,’ jenn mengiyakan siap mengangguk kepala lagi.

Dia menambah, ‘we don’t want a leader in the community that says a thing then does another thing. Nanti orang cakap, dia bolehla takat suruh orang kawin and having children, tapi bukan dia pun yang rasa susah payah jaga anak,’

‘yeah, you’re rite,’ kemudian jenn menyambung, ‘I know one thing for sure about your religion, if ones did pray 5 times per day, fasting when the fasting month is coming, do good like avoiding premarital sex, clubbing and alcohol, they are good Moslems then’

‘True. But those are the basic things that one must do. No exclusion dear. No matter how bad you are, you still have to pray and fast, when the time comes, those aren’t optional but are obligations as Moslems.’

‘Owh, I thought when you do those things; you would be more pious than others. But that is it. If you don’t do them, then it’s up to you,’ jenn mengerut kening.

‘Yups, u do become more pious than others but those who miss the chance to complete their obligations, they can’t simply walk away and keep their hands clean. There’s a sin to bear for each of the obligation you missed.’

‘oh, in your religion, if you want to be in heaven then you have to be a Moslem, rite? Then, what happens to those non Moslems?’ jenn buat muka wondering.

Okeh, dia ambil masa sebelum memulakan. ‘if one dies without believing of Allah as his one and only God, then all of his good deeds wont be taken into account. Then, if you have no good deeds, how in heaven’s name you’re going to enter heaven? Since heaven is the place where all the people with good deeds are belonged to’

‘So where are they heading?’

‘They have no other option but to hell, becoming the hell dwellers, forever.’

‘Do all the Moslems directly go to heaven?’ jenn menambah soalan.

‘Sooner or later, they all will go to heaven, but it depends on their deeds in this world. If the good deeds outweighs the bad deeds, they will be shown the way to heaven, but if vice versa, then they will be punished first in hell for certain period of time, as if you did commit crime, therefore you are sent to prison, tapi prison yang ni sangat sengsara, tau,’

‘So, they won’t have chances to ask their God regarding their wrongdoings? Nak buat rayuan ke?’

when they soon realized that their pace will be in hell, they would definitely terrified. Begging for their life back even for 1 second. But, it’s too late. By the time they reach the hellfire, the guardian there will ask them a question, ‘didn’t come to you any of the God’s messengers, reminding you the true way of life?’

‘Ouch!’ jenn membuat reaksi seram campur terasa.

‘the dwellers there will keep on begging and pleading for freedom from the hellfire but unfortunate, nothing can be done to bring them back into this world, they are going to live there forever,’ peringatan buat diri sendiri yang paling terutama.

‘Ops, you did talk about the basic in Islam, what’s that?’ jenn mengubah soalan.

'5 pillars of Islam,’ dia jawab, sambil tangan mempercepat gerakan, ingin segera menghabiskan lukisan.

‘Oh, is there such a thing? Tell me then,’ jen menyambung perbualan yang tergendala kerana pertanyaan seorang teman yang lain tentang lukisan petang itu.

‘1st: one must believe that no God but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, its called syahadah.’ Dia menerangkan dengan ilmu yang tak seberapa.

‘That’s the most important aspect. Believe in one God, no other than Him. If a person believes that there’s a Power which is equivalent or stronger than Him, that kind of belief will cancel out his syahadah. Termasuklah percaya dekat penilik nasib, pi dekat kubur bawak makanan and stuff. The keywords here are oneness of Allah and the finality of the prophethood of Muhammad’

eh, you guys cant do those things? But it seems like a lot of Moslems still performing those kinds of rituals and believing in those supernatural bomoh thingy.’ Ouch! Tak tau nak balas apa, sekadar tersenyum mendengar jenn bercakap sendiri dan menjungkit kening sebelum bertanya rukun islam yang kedua. ‘Then, the 2nd one?’

‘5-time praying, dear’ dia menjawab sambil tangan menyelak halaman seterusnya buku manual. ‘Solah is the pillar of religion. Like those tubular metals used in construction to support the structure of the building project. The 1st and foremost issue to be scrutinized on the doomsday is solah, if the deep foundation is concrete, then everything will be ok.’

Jenn turut menyelak buku, tapi sempat menjawab, ‘owh, no wonder you mentioned that praying is the basic thing,’ berhenti sebelum meneruskan, ‘then, how do you know when is the time? And the direction as well?’

‘facing the kaabah. That’s the direction. And for the time, it depends on the position of the sun. At dawn, mid-day, late-afternoon, sunset and nightfall,’ Dia menjawab ringkas, berharap apa yang disampaikan adalah yang sebenar tentang Islam.

‘Then how you guys are going to pray, let say during the exam, traveling or in some other conditions where you are really unable to fulfill the obligations?’ bertanya sambil memadam sedikit bahagian dari lukisannya, untuk dikemaskini bagi hasil akhir.

‘You can pray outside the exam hall, no need to walk to the mosque or praying room nearby. Anywhere that’s clean. And if it’s really impossible, you can gather 2 solah in a time, let say when you’re traveling’ Cuba untuk menerangkan walau bukan penerang yang baik.

‘Hrrrmm... Then, the 3rd one?

‘Zakat, giving away certain amount of money to the poor and for those in need,’

‘The 4th one?’

‘Fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, from dawn until sundown,’

‘The 5th?’

‘Perform hajj in makkah,’

‘Oowh, is it a place where long time ago, your prophet helped in deciding the fair way to put the black stone in its place? The one mentioned in the sejarah text book?’

‘Yups, you’re right.

Sungguh dia risau jika salah penerangan.

‘It’s where your savings go. Like a normal bank. At the same time, it works as a pilgrim’s fund board. Some banks run an auto-deduction service. They deduct the money from your saving account for zakat payment.’

‘Hey, that’s great. Then you no need to worry when it’s time to pay,’ jen tersenyum sambil menutup buku dan mengemaskan alat tulisnya yang berselerak memenuhi meja.

Dia turut bersiap-sedia untuk pulang. ‘Do you know, I also have to give away certain amount of money each month. Ermm, it will be much better if they can simply deduct from my account, and then I won’t miss it each time,’

sebelum menyerah hasil akhir dan berlalu pulang pada petang itu, dia sempat berkata kepada jenn, ‘jenn, you want to know something? If a person reverts to Islam, he’s like a newborn baby, free from all of his past sins or mistakes,’

'Wahh, really? Hey, that’s great.' nampak terkejut dan tak percaya.

'But then, can a person intentionally stop from becoming a Moslem then convert to other religion and then revert to Islam, for the sake of being free from his past sins since you said that once a person reverts, he’s free from all sins?’

‘Nope nope, big capital letters NO for you,’ Dia membalas, tersenyum sambil menuju ke pintu keluar. Jenn mengikut dari belakang.

Sama-sama menaiki bus pulang, sebelum turun dari bus, jenn sempat bergurau, ‘he he, I guess after this, I can teach others about the pillars of Islam since I mastered it already, may be I can remember them better than some of the Moslems,’ dia tersenyum melangkah perlahan ke arah rumah.
